How to Create the Greatest Lather of Your Life:
The key to a perfect shave starts with top-notch shaving soap. Brands like Ariana & Evans is highly regarded in the industry and compatible with any brush or water type. For beginners, a quality synthetic brush is recommended for its ease of maintenance and ability to create an excellent lather, though this comes down to personal choice.
1. If you're bowl lathering, begin by filling your bowl with hot water to warm both the bowl and brush.
2. Submerge the brush in the bowl, allowing it to soak for about five minutes, which is most effective when using a natural hair brush and often done during a shower.
3. After soaking, remove the brush and squeeze out the excess water, or give it a few gentle shakes. You can see my lathering technique on YouTube under " BEST LATHER OF YOUR LIFE."
4. To load the brush, swirl it in the soap jar with light to medium pressure until a paste-like consistency forms on both the soap and brush. Typically, I load a synthetic brush for 30 seconds and a natural hair brush for 45-60 seconds, though this may vary slightly depending on the soap and brush.
5. Avoid creating bubbles, which indicate too much water, and continue swirling until the mixture resembles a thick paste, similar to Elmer's glue.
6. Proceed to build your lather either directly on your face or in a lathering bowl, whichever you prefer. I personally favor face lathering.
7. Gradually add water, just a few drops at a time, usually by wetting my hand under the faucet and letting the water drip onto the brush. Often, just a few drops are sufficient. Our soaps can absorb a significant amount of water, so feel free to experiment with more. Aim for a Greek yogurt-like consistency, ensuring the lather is dense and slick.
Happy Shaves!
