the american dream
We are a small family business based in Ansonia, CT. Like many family-owned businesses, we started at home, creating soaps in our small kitchen. As a wet shaving hobbyist, I knew the type of soaps I preferred and tried my best to create a soap worthy of consideration. Our goal for the business was to supplement our income and help pay for our daughter's education. Additionally, I hoped it would help us during retirement years. Thankfully, our shaving soaps quickly gained recognition. This was especially timely since I lost my job of 17 years due to covid at the age of 57. During the height of covid, nobody was hiring, so we decided to somehow make the business work and make this our full time job. During this time period, I had been developing a new soap base called Kaizen, which in Japanese means 'constant improvement'. Literally, three weeks after my redundancy notification, we decided to release Kaizen (with a hope and a prayer), which changed our lives forever. We've since moved from working out of our kitchen to a nearby town in the new downtown office space. We're living proof that when one door closes, another one opens.
