Indo Ink Shaving Soap - ultima 2
Indo-Ink is one of those fragrances that’s difficult to compare to anything else. It was inspired by an experience I had in Bali in 2019, when I visited a local tattoo shop to have an ancient temple tattooed beside my Ganesh.
I can still remember that room.
The shop was dark, except for the bright lights directed over the tattoo chairs. Incense was burning somewhere in the background. The floors were old wood, the chairs worn leather, and there were magazines and newspapers everywhere, some new and others looking like they had been sitting there for years. People were hanging out, talking and drinking absinthe. The entire place had an atmosphere and a smell that stayed with me long after I left.
That’s what I wanted to recreate with Indo-Ink.
Ink and worn leather are at the heart of the fragrance, surrounded by incense, tobacco, resins and sandalwood. Absinthe and wormwood bring a distinctive green, bitter character, while saffron, oud and tonka add warmth and depth. Mandarin and ylang ylang provide just enough brightness to keep the darker notes from becoming too heavy.
There’s also an aged, almost dusty quality running through the fragrance that reminds me of those old newspapers, magazines, wood floors and leather chairs.
I worked hard to recreate the room, the people and the atmosphere from my memory of that day in Bali. It’s unusual, dark, resinous and a little exotic. Most importantly, it’s unlike anything else I’ve created.

It performed very well. Slickness and easy to latter up. One small scoop with my soap spoon and I was able to shave 4 times. Now for the scent, I wasn't a big fan but also it wasn't offensive. More like a neutral scent. Overall a great shaving soap.
The soap is easy to lather and only requires a small amount on the brush to get started. The scent is quite pleasing, not sickly sweet like some soaps, so I am very happy with the product.
So there I was, on vacation in Bali, obviously. Im wearing linen pants, a silk shirt open way too far, and sunglasses Im not cool enough to own. A gecko winks at me. A monk hands me a coconut. Everything smells like paradise and possibly poor decisions.
Thats when I see it: a glowing doorway with smoke curling out, incense thicker than my dads mustache in 1978. I step inside and boomIndo-Ink.
The air is rich with leather, ink, and absinthe. A guy named Snake is getting a tattoo of Ganesh wrestling a tiger. Someones playing sitar jazz. I dont know where I am, but Im not leaving.
Then the scent hits deeper: mandarin and saffron, sweet but mysteriouslike a mango with a PhD in seduction. Tobacco and oud drift by like I just walked through a sacred cigar lounge inside a volcano. Someone offers me ylang-ylang tea. I accept. My soul leaves my body for a minute.
Suddenly Im shaving. The lather from the K2e base is smoother than a hammock woven by angels. My razor glides like its on vacation too. A dolphin outside gives me a thumbs-up. I dont question it.
When I rinse off, a breeze carries the scent of tonka, sandalwood, and warm inked-up dreams. I feel powerful. I feel mysterious. I feel like I might be late for a tattoo appointment with destiny.
Then I wake up. No plane ticket. No passport stamp. Just a tub of Indo-Ink, a flawless shave, and the faint memory of someone whispering, You smell like the sexiest incense burner alive.
This soap right here is the reason i fell into the rabbit hole! i will always have this scent in my den
