Woods & Spices Aftershave Splash (ultima)
Woods & Spices started with my friend Mattia, who was describing a scent he wanted for his new beard care line in Italy. The scent is a dry wood, sweetened with a hint of vanilla. The spice comes from pink pepper, saffron & bay leaf and a very, very small amount of cinnamon. The base, well…it’s wonderful. This scent would be a year-round fragrance. the splash is presented in our luxurious 5oz bottles.
Notes: Clementine, orange blossom, saffron, elemi, castorium, vanilla, guaic wood, sandalwood, Himalayan Cedar, Virginian Cedar, agarwood, & mohagany
I give it five stars with a caveat. This is a very well blended after shave it is more complex than I at first realized. I feel like this is more of an old school fragrance and by that I mean it reminds me of my childhood and the types of aftershaves the men in my family wore. At first sniff it came across somehow sweet which initially put me off but after sitting with this probably longer than I've sat with any other fragrance to get to the heart of it I realized that the sweetness is kind of an illusion, it seems to be the result of the blending and isn't a Gourmand or an overly sweet scent it's carried through the fragrance as a richness of spice.
While the fragrance isn't for me personally as it doesn't suit my personality that doesn't detract from its composition or quality. I gave it to my father who appropriately enough smells amazing with it. It matches his personality perfectly. Warm, spicy and rich but with backbone.
I think this is the type of fragrance that suits a particular personality as opposed to being subject to vagaries in body chemistry. Someone in one of the other reviews described it as a man in flannel dispensing wisdom. I could see that. I think this would suit an informal occasion better to my nose. But with a degree of respect nonetheless.
Love it
Soap lathers nice, splash smells phenomenal. A little bit goes a long way. Highly recommend.
Very clean woodsy scent in this aftershave splash. The skin food leaves your skin luxuriously soft while smelling great.
Applied Woods & Spice splash and immediately felt like I should be in a flannel shirt giving cryptic advice to younger men in crisis.
The burn was briefjust enough to remind me I'm alive. Then came the warmth: woodsmoke, subtle spice, and the calm confidence of a man who knows how to both field dress a deer and pair a red wine.
It doesnt just finish the shaveit seals the myth.
Wear it when:
You need gravitas in a flannel.
Youre chopping metaphorical wood.
You want people to assume your cologne has a backstory.
